How to Give

Donors can give to SU through three primary vehicles—each vital in its own way.

Planned Giving

Planned giving is an outstanding opportunity to meet your charitable goals at a level you never thought possible—providing a financially secure future for you, your family, and Syracuse University.

Our Office of Gift Planning will work in partnership with you and your legal, tax, and other advisors to design strategies and an integrated giving plan that will help you:

  • Establish a personal legacy
  • Earn income and lower taxes
  • Save taxes on transfers to heirs
  • Ensure financial security
  • Avoid the retirement plan tax trap

Our easy-to-understand gift planning site will tell you about creative giving strategies—strategies that enhance you and your family’s well being, as well as Syracuse University’s.

Annual Giving

Annual gifts are a source of immediate funds that can be used to support SU’s top priorities, the general scholarship fund, dean’s funds, and funds for divisions like SU Library, Hendricks Chapel, SU Abroad and Athletics.

Because tuition and fees account for only a portion of SU’s annual budget, annual contributions to The Fund for Syracuse are crucial, creating an essential bridge between tuition revenues and the actual cost of an SU education.

Capital Gifts

Capital gifts are major gifts that are generally designed around a specific purpose. They can be designated to support the construction of a new building, the creation of a new academic program, the endowment of a chair or a scholarship, or a multitude of other things.

These types of gifts give donors the opportunity to become integrally involved with the University. By partnering with us, they are able to share their input and expertise, and see their ideas take shape.
