Since 1988, Syracuse University has lived up to its promise to always look back and act forward in remembrance of each life lost in the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103. Each year, Syracuse University selects 35 rising seniors as Remembrance Scholars. Being chosen as a Remembrance Scholar is one of the University’s highest honors. Remembrance Scholars are selected for their academic achievement, their commitment to community and their belief in peace for all people. Each scholar is awarded $5,000 and is charged with helping to educate the SU campus community about the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland. Scholars are expected to undertake meaningful service and to promote initiatives to combat hatred and extremism. Through education, all 270 lost in the tragedy are remembered and honored. And every Remembrance Scholar goes into the world holding dear the memory of those lost.
