The Strategic Undergraduate STEM Talent Acceleration Initiative (SUSTAIN) is a competitive scholarship and training program at Syracuse designed for high-ability students interested in pursuing a major in a STEM field. Nation-wide, nearly half of STEM majors abandon their program of study before completion. The SUSTAIN program is designed to provide the academic, social, and financial support to change that trajectory, with 75% of students continuing as STEM majors, and a retention rate of about 90%, paving the way for more students to join STEM fields after graduation.
Gifts to SUSTAIN:
- Provides financial support to SUSTAIN students;
- Allow students to pursue “early-immersion” lab research, matching freshman and sophomore students with experienced STEM faculty;
- Develop community-building activities to foster a sense of connectedness and support;
- Give SUSTAIN students access to career development resources like career exploration trips;
- Support a peer mentoring program that connects freshman students with older students in the program.
